I get asked this same question almost every week:
"What salary should we pay for this (insert sales job title)?"
It's then followed up with
"...what's the lowest we could pay?"
Then I say:
"The right sales hire won't cost you a penny"
It's simple:
Lets say you're hiring an Account Executive with a revenue target of £1.2 Million per year
The salary range is £85k to £110k, (although you could justify a higher salary for world class AE). If they hit target, they will earn double salary in commission.
So year 1 they cost you circa £250k but make you a smidge under £1 Million
What if you make a bad hire?
How much of your time and lost revenue that will be? Who knows, but I'm willing to bet you aren't left with a 'smidge under £1 Million...
The point?
If you want an industry leading revenue generator, you'll have to pay an industry leading salary
...or they'll earn the big
$$$ for another company.
I'm happy to benchmark on any salaries for any roles you are hiring for. Grab a quick zoom with me here: Zoom
